DHAKA UNIVERSITY: The authorities concerned have completed all necessary preparations to hold the elections to University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) and its hall unions’ elections, slated for Monday (Mar 11).
Last moment’s preparations are going on in full swing at the DU campus. Booths have already been installed in the student dormitories.
Ballot boxes have started taking to dormitories from Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban since this afternoon.
Professor Dr Mohammad Bahauddin, Chief Returning Officer of Master Da Surja Sen Hall, told Banglanews that booths have already been installed. Ballot boxes have also reached the hall.
The balloting will begin at 8am and continue till 2pm, without any break.
As many as 43,256 voters are supposed to cast their ballots, in 508 booths set up at 18 dormitories of male and female students for Ducsu and its hall unions’ elections, to be held after 28 years.
According to chief returning officer's office, a total 229 candidates will vie fro 25 central positions. Of those, 21 are vice president posts while 14 for general secretary, and 13 for assistant general secretary.

The authorities concerned issued a 24-hour restriction for outsiders beginning from 6:00pm Sunday (Mar 10) to entry to the Dhaka University campus for Ducsu elections.
Police will set up seven check posts –Shahbagh, NilKhet, Palashi, Jagannath Hall Crossing, Rumana Bhaban crossing, Doyel Chattar and Shahidullah Hall Crossing—to ensure security in the area ahead of Ducsu elections, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Asaduzzaman Miah on Saturday (Mar 9).
None will be allowed on the DU premises without showing valid DU passes or ID cards till 6:00pm Monday (Mar 11), he added.
