RAJSHAHI: A Rajshahi court sentenced three persons to life in prison in Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader Robiul Islam Robi murder case.

The convicts were also fined Tk 10,000 each. They will have to stay more six months behind bars, in default.

They are—Setu Islam Setu, Babla and Sohag.

Of them, Setu has been absconding. Two others were produced before the Speedy Trial Tribunal-Rajshahi where Judge Anup Kumar pronounced the verdict around 1pm Wednesday (Mar 13).

Seven accused in the same case were acquitted as charges against them weren’t proved true.

Special public prosecutor (PP) of the court Advocate Entajul Islam Babu confirmed the matter to Banglanews. 

Robiul Islam Robi died on the spot when a group of miscreants attacked him on the campus of Fine Arts department of Rajshahi University (RU), during a celebration program of Pahela Baishakh on Apr 14, 2013. 

Robi’s elder brother Shafiul Islam, as a plaintiff, filed a murder case with Boalia Model Police Station accusing 12 persons the next day.

The case was shifted to Rajshahi metropolitan detective police on Apr 24, 2015.
