JOYPURHAT: Two persons were killed and at least eight others injured in a clash among two rival groups of Awami League in Kalai upazila of Joypurhat. 

The deceased are—Aftab Sarker, 55 and Ratan, 48.

Kalai Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Latif Khan confirmed the matter to Banglanews.

A dispute ensued among the followers of Udoypur union parishad chairman Wazed Ali Dada and Awami League district unit organizing secretary Minfuzur Rahman Milon after Milon elected upazila chairman winning the polls on Mar 10.

Following the dispute, the followers got engaged in a clash at Moslemganj Bazar area of Udoypur Saturday (Mar 16) night.

At least 10 persons were injured. 

Of them, Aftab and Ratan succumbed to injuries at early hours of Sunday (Mar 17). They were followers of Milon. 

Others were hospitalized.
