DHAKA: British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Robert Chatterton Dickson said the UK court will decide the issue whether BNP acting Chairman Tarique Rahman to be sent back to Bangladesh.
The UK government has no role in this regard, he added.
He said this while addressing journalists at a program ‘DCAB Talk’ organized by Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh (DCAB) at the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIIS) auditorium in the capital on Monday (July 8).
In reply to a query whether he convicted accused Tarique Rahman staying in UK will send back to the country, Robert Chattererson Dixon, said “The UK court will decide the issue of sending BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman back to Bangladesh. The UK government has no role in this regard. The UK government also does not comment on any individual person.
In response to a question, the British High Commissioner said, the recent visit of Bangladesh Prime Minister to China and Malaysia foreign minister's visit to Bangladesh over the repatriation of Rohingyas, is encouraging.
He, as the chief guest, also said there is a division between members of the United Nations Security Council on the Rohingya issue. But the international community wants voluntary and dignified return of Rohingyas. Everyone is working on that goal.
