BRAHMANBARIA: Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque said children of war criminals can in no way become members of Awami League.

“If anyone is found a member in anywhere, they will be expelled. There is no debate about this,” AKM Mozammel Haque said on Thursday (July 11).

The minister said this after visiting a place to construct a memorial in memory of Indian allied forces at Sonarampur area in Ashuganj upazila of Brahmanbaria.

The minister said under no circumstances, the trial of the war criminals will halt. Punishment for war criminals is being executed gradually. People get to learn about trials from news of those who are big war criminals. But trails for the small ones- who opposed the independence-don’t get media coverage. They are given life imprisonment or other punishment. That is why people think that the trial of war criminals has been postponed. Actually, the trial is going on.

The minister further said that more than 700 Indian soldiers fought from staying with us and were martyred on Bengal soil. We want to erect a monument in memory of them. A monument will be erected in Ashuganj, as a large portion of the war took place in Ashuganj.

Ministry of Liberation War Affairs Secretary SM Arif-ur-Rahman, Brahmanbaria District Commissioner Hayat-ud-Daula Khan, Ashuganj Upazila Parishad Chairman Hanif Munsi, Ashuganj Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Nazimul Haider, Additional Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Abu Sayeed were present there.
