DHAKA: BNP has convened a meeting of its standing committee members on Friday (July 19) afternoon to discuss strategies on movement demanding release of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail.
The meeting is scheduled to be held at Khaleda’s Gulshan political office around 4:00pm, Syrul Kabir Khan, a staff of BNP chief’s press wing, told Banglanews.
Sources said the meeting will be discussed to make the rallies in divisional cities demanding the release of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
Besides, the ongoing crisis of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal will also be discussed. There has been a long deadlock regarding the formation of a new committee of Chhatra Dal.
The first one of the pre-declared divisional rallies demanding the release of imprisoned Khaleda Zia was held in Barishal on Thursday (July 18).
The second rally will be held in Chattogram on Saturday (July 20) and in Khulna on Thursday (July 25). Party’s secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will address the rallies as the chief guest.
Besides, standing committee members and senior leaders will also be present there. However, there will be no leader of the 20-party alliance and Jatiya Oikyafront.
A source confirmed that the party's acting chairman Tarique Rahman will join in the meeting through Skype.
