Bangladesh produced a commanding performance to defeat Sri Lanka by 83 runs in the second T20 of the three-match series in Dambulla on Monday, leveling the series 1–1.

After being put in to bat, Bangladesh recovered from an early collapse to post 177 for 7 in 20 overs, thanks to a fluent 76 from Liton Das and a fiery 48 from Shamim Hossain.

The visitors lost both openers — Tanjid Hasan Tamim and Parvez Hossain Emon — with just seven runs on the board. Liton then anchored the innings, first with Towhid Hridoy (31 off 25), and later in a crucial partnership with Shamim.

Liton, returning to form, struck five sixes and a four in his 50-ball knock before falling in the first ball of the 19th over with the score on 155. Shamim then unleashed a late assault, scoring 48 off 27 balls with five fours and a six, before being run out in the final over alongside Zakir Hasan (3), limiting Bangladesh's final push.

In reply, Sri Lanka crumbled under pressure and were bundled out for 94 in 16.1 overs. Kusal Mendis was run out early for 8, triggering a collapse from which the hosts never recovered. Only Pathum Nissanka (32 off 29) and Dasun Shanaka (20 off 16) reached double figures.

Leg-spinner Rishad Hossain starred with the ball, taking 3 for 18, while Mohammad Saifuddin and Shoriful Islam claimed two wickets apiece. Mustafizur Rahman and Mehidy Hasan Miraz chipped in with one wicket each.

The series decider will be held on July 16 in Colombo.
