Bashundhara Kings made a winning start in a historical match at their den named ‘Bashundhara Kings Arena’, the home stadium of Bashundhara Sports Complex on Thursday.
A new era began in the country’s domestic football when defending champions Bashundhara Kings hosted Bangladesh Police Football Club in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) football match at their dedicated home venue.
Riding on a second half barce by Brazilian captain Robson Robinho, Kings beat Police FC by 3-0 goals in the match. Bangladesh’s Nigerian citizen cum forward Eleta Kingsley added the third.
With the day’s feat, Kings earned a total of 9 points from three wins and one defeat while Police FC remained the same with 2 points from 2 draws and two defeats.
After a barren first half, Robson broke the deadlock in the 66th minute, off a pass from substitute midfielder Mahdi Yusuf Khan (1-0).
Kings were awarded by a penalty when Police defender Danilo Augusto illegally tackled the England born expat midfielder Mahdi inside the box in the 76th minute (2-0).
Police FC also got a blow as their defender Esanur Rahman got a marching order after conceding two yellow cards. Police’s head coach Aristica Cioaba also conceded a yellow card due to his misbehaviors towards the referees.
Police FC got another blow while substitute forward Eleta scored from the right flan, off a long cross from Mahdi in the 87th minute.
Meanwhile, Kings set a milestone in organizing a top-tier BPL official match for the first time on the domestic stage at its dedicated home venue. The Complex is also the home venue of Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra Ltd. They will host Dhaka Abahani Ltd on Friday at the same venue.
In the day’s other match between Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club and Rahmatganj Muslim Friends Society at their makeshift home venue at the Sylhet District Stadium was still going on until the report was written.
