The visiting Afghanistan are facing Bangladesh bowlers in the three-match ODI series opener at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Wednesday.
Earlier, Afghanistan skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi won the toss and elected to bat first.
They have scored 113 runs for fours in 30 overs.
The match that started at 11:00am is being aired live on GTV and T Sports.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh handed the ODI cap to middle-order batter Yasir Ali.
The Tigers are currently placed at second position in the ICC World Cup Super League with 80 points and they’ll be trying to earn the full 30 points by cleanly sweeping away the visitors in a bid to make a giant leap towards the 2023 ICC World Cup in India.
Besides, Bangladesh will face big teams like England and South Africa in the coming months while their remaining two opponents are – Afghanistan and Ireland.
The result of the series against Afghanistan will tell whether Bangladesh’s remaining journey to the World Cup will either be smooth or patchy.
