The visiting Afghanistan managed to avoid the whitewash with a consolation 7-wicket win over Bangladesh in the third and final ODI at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Monday (Feb 28).
Bangladesh served a reminder of their strength by giving Afghanistan some nervous moments but Rahmanullah Gurbaz's century helped the visitors prevent a clean sweep.
Earlier in the day, Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat first. They have lost all wickets to score 192 runs in 46.5 overs.
Liton Das scored the crucial 86 runs off 113 balls before leaving the crease and helped Bangladesh reach 160 runs for six after 38 overs against Afghanistan.
Besides, Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmuddlah scored 30 and not our 29 runs respectively.
Rashid Khan bagged 3 wickets while Mohammad Nabi got two.
Chasing the target, Afghanistan scored 193 runs for 3 wickets in 40.1 overs.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz got not out 106 off 110 balls while Riaz Hassan and Rahmat Shah scored 35 and 47 runs respectively.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz took two wickets while Shakib Al Hasan got one.
Bangladesh won the first ODI by four wickets while clinching the series by earning an 88-run victory in the second game but ICC Super League points are at stake the hosts have no reason to be relaxed as every point in the bilateral series is important despite winning the series.
The hosts reached a magical 100 points and moved to the top of ICC ODI Super League after defeating the visitors in the second ODI’s but still, there is a long way to go for them as far as booking a place in the next edition of ICC World Cup is concerned as they have got some tough series coming up.
Bangladesh’s remaining ODI assignments will be against South Africa, Ireland and England with the first two assignments away from home while the series against England at home will not be easy either.
