Top Bangladeshi outfit Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra Ltd and India’s Sporting Club East Bengal agreed to work together for the development of football infrastructure in this region, said the East Bengal officials on Wednesday.
A delegation team of East Bengal, one of the most renowned football clubs in India, recently arrived in Dhaka at the invitation of Bashundhara Group Managing Director and Sheikh Russel KC Chairman Sayem Sobhan Anvir.
The officials met Sayem Sobhan at his residence on Wednesday and after the meeting, the East Bengal officials hosted a press conference at a city hotel where they announced to work side by side with Sheikh Russel.
“Both Sheikh Russel and East Bengal verbally agreed to work together for the development of football infrastructure. Both sides will confirm their strategies and work plans soon,” the East Bengal’s Executive Committee Member Debabrata Sarkar told reporters in the capital.
“Sayem Sobhan visited our East Bengal Club a few days ago. He receives a lifetime membership from our club. At that time, he expressed interest in working together. He also invited us here then. Now, we came here, met him and talked with him. We’ve verbally agreed to work together,” he added.
Debabrata also said that both the clubs can also arrange series matches, talent hunt programmes and players’ exchanging programmes in the future.
“I think if we work together, we can take the football of this region to the Asian level. We can also bring back the old glory of football,” he added.
Meanwhile, Debabrata also praised the Bashundhara Sports Complex, built by the country’s leading business conglomerate Bashundhara Group.
“We visited the Bashundhara Sports Complex (on Tuesday). To be honest, I was overwhelmed. We’ve many stadiums, sports complexes in our country. I don’t want to compare it with them. But I believe this complex is going to be a great sports complex,” he added.
Another East Bengal official Rupak Saha, who was also present during the press meet, hoped that the decision would be a new beginning of the betterment of the two Bengal’s football.
“There is a great opportunity to establish a great bond between two Bengals through these two clubs. Hopefully, it’s the beginning of something good,” said Rupak.
Earlier, Bashundhara Group Managing Director Sayem Sobhan, who is also the Chairman of Sheikh Russel KC, along with his wife Sabrina Sobhan visited the over 100-year-old club East Bengal last February.
The club also accorded warm reception and lifetime membership to Sayem Sobhan at that time.
