Opener Mahmudul Hasan joy has become the first Bangladeshi batsman to score a century in Tests against South Africa.

It was his maiden international hundred and also the second one by a Bangladeshi in South Africa in any format.

Joy reached the three-figure mark by taking a couple of runs off Keshav Maharaj in the 97th over on Day 3 at the Kingsmead Stadium, Durban on Saturday.

The 21-year-old took 269 deliveries to reach the milestone and has struck 10 fours and one six along the way.

Mahmudul Hasan joy is only the sixth Asian opener to have a Test hundred in South Africa.

Earlier, he became the first Bangladeshi batter to face 200 or more balls more than once in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia) countries.

He is also the first Asian opener to play more than 200 balls in his debut innings in both New Zealand and South Africa.

Joy reached his fifty in the morning session of day three off 170 balls and the second fifty came at a much quicker time.

In the innings, Liton scored 41 runs off 92 balls while Najmul Hossain Shanto had 38 runs of 87 balls.

After 97 overs, Bangladesh reached 235 for 7. Mehidy Hasan Miraj is accompanying Joy with 10 runs off 29 balls.
