Sri Lanka Bounced Back Winning Day Two

Bangladesh VS Sri Lanka Test Series
2nd Test Played at SBNCS Dhaka
Brief Scorecard at Stumps Day Two

Bangladesh 1st Innings 365 All Out in 116.2 Overs (Mushfiqur Rahim 175*, Litton Kumar Das 141, Taijul Islam 15, Kasun Rajitha 5/ 62, Asitha Fernando 4/92
Sri Lanka 143/2 in 46 Overs (Dimuth Karunaratne 70*, Oshada Fernando 57, Shakib Al Hasan 1/19, Ebadat Hossain 1/31)

Day two of the Dhaka test belonged to the visitors. First, they grabbed 4 wickets quickly in the first session restricting Bangladesh to 365.

Then batting out of the skin they reached 143/2. Six out of 11 Bangladesh players scored ducks, two scored single digits. Apart from prolific Mushfique )175*), Litton (141), only Taijul scored 15.

On day one first hour Bangladesh lost 5 wickets for 24, on day two first session they lost 4 wickets. Even then reaching a reasonable 365 all out. On a wicket where Sri Lankan pacers, Kasun Rajitha (5/62) and Asitha (4/92) rocked Bangladesh, local pacers could not make much impression.

The feature of Bangladesh's innings was high-quality exceptional partnership of 272. It could be extended further if not Litton was caught by Mendis in the slips off the bowling of Rajitha. Once Litton left other than Taijul, Mosaddek, Khaled and Ebdat again went into Zero scoring mode. If one of them could give Mushfiq support he could score his fourth double century. Bangladesh got all out for 365. Who thought Bangladesh would reach there from a crushing state of 5/24.

Sri Lanka started the response carefully. Oshada Fernando (57) and Dimuth Karunaratne (70*) set a solid foundation producing 95 in the opening partnership. Ebadat struck the first blow removing Oshada. Shakib towards the end of the day trapped Kushal Mendis restoring the balance somehow. The first session of day three will be match-defining.

We are not sure whether the first session trend of days one and two will be repeated. Bangladesh bowling was not looking smart enough running through Lankan innings.

However, the situation might change. The first-innings lead on this wicket will be very useful. I am sure Bangladesh think tank will possibly assess why 8 out of 11 players batted so poorly.
