Bangladesh Trails by 112 Runs with 8 Second Innings Wickets at hand.
Despite of brilliant bowling efforts Bangladesh has its back to the wall at the stumps of day two. West Indies grinded and grafted reaching 265 all out in their 1st innings taking a very hefty 162 runs first innings lead. Had Bangladesh fielders availed all the opportunities, the lead could be much less. Anyway, a magical spell of controlled off spin by Mehedi Miraj led to West Indies losing their last 7 wickets for 68 runs.
Bangladesh in their second innings reached 50/2 by stumps. West Indies still ahead by 112 runs looks in reasonable control. Bangladesh will have to scale across the mountain to create any contest. However, much drier wicket on the day three should be better for batting if only Bangladesh batsmen apply.
The feature of West Indies innings was painstaking 96 by captain Kraigg Brathwaite and polished 63 by his deputy Jermaine Blackwood. Bangladesh could not take more than one wicket in the first session of day two. Few chances were not availed. At lunch, West Indies were 159/3 sitting pretty with 56 runs lead. Kraigg and Jermain looked comfortable till Khaled with a sharp inswing ball trapped Kraigg at 96. Suddenly floodgate opened. Mehedi Miraj produced a magical spell taking 4 quick wickets. He also took a stunning catch off the bowling of Khaled to remove Blackwood.
West Indies innings crumbled at 265 getting 162 runs lead. All Bangladesh bowlers bowled exceptionally well in the given condition. Meraj taking 4/59 was the outstanding performer. Butter fingers of Bangladeshi fielders also helped WI in building the lead.
Bangladesh in the second innings survived the first outburst of Roach and Seales. Tamim was looking good. He should have left the outswinger of Josef. Joshua de Silva dived to his left taking a brilliant catch to remove Tamim soring 22. In the given circumstance he should have been more responsible. Mehedi was promoted in the batting order. He too failed try to play an unnecessary cut. Josef taking 2/14 pushed Bangladesh back to the wall. Bangladesh finishing day two at 50/2 still trails by 112 runs.
All is not yet lost for the visitors. We believe Bangladesh batting sensibly can score enough runs in the second innings on day three and create challenges for West Indies batting last on this wicket. I do not agree with Sir Courtney Ambrose that WI would wrap up the win on day three. But all win depend on how Joy and Shanto continue in wiping out the deficit and Shakib, Litton and the rest build the lead. Bangladesh would need at least 200 lead. But that will require a mountain to climb.
