Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan has expressed his satisfaction after the broadcast-related issues regarding the ongoing Bangladesh-West Indies series were finally resolved.
T Sports, the country’s lone sports TV channel, on Tuesday informed that they would telecast the remaining matches of Bangladesh’s ongoing tour of West Indies.
Bangladeshi fans earlier failed to watch the first two days of the opening Test between the two sides due to a failed negotiation between the rights-holders and Bangladesh’s TV channels.
The icc.tv platform showed the opening Test live but the Bangladeshi viewers had to pay two dollars to subscribe to the online channel.
Later, the Bangladesh Cricket Board started to telecast the match from day three on their official Facebook page but no TV channel was able to broadcast the opening Test, much to the disappointment of millions of Bangladeshi cricket fans.
Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, a former sportsman and a sports enthusiast, then played a key role in solving the broadcast-related issues and because of his efforts, T Sports has finally become able to broadcast the remaining matches of the Bangladesh-West Indies series.
“We’ve always tried to play a role in the development and expansion of sports. In addition to running several professional clubs, we’ve taken various steps to produce world-class athletes. The only reason behind launching T Sports is to bring all the sports in the world to the people of this country,” Ahmed Akbar Sobhan said on Wednesday.
“Like everyone else, I was disappointed at not seeing the first match of the West Indies series on television. Now, there’s no problem in this regard,” he added.
T Sports, the youngest member of Bashundhara Group-owned venture East West Media Group Ltd, started broadcasting Bangladesh national cricket team’s matches when West Indies toured this part of the world in January 2021.
They then aired all the home and away series of the Tigers, including the Sri Lanka series, the Australia series, the New Zealand series, the Zimbabwe series and the South Africa series.
T Sports also live aired the ICC T20 World Cup held in Oman and the UAE last year and they are expected to broadcast matches of the next ICC event as well.
The series-concluding second Test between the Tigers and the Caribbean side will take place on June 24-28 in St Lucia.
The match will be followed by a three-match T20I series and a three-match ODI series which will also be telecast live on T Sports.
The first two T20Is will be held on July 1 and 2 respectively in Dominica while the third T20I will take place in Guyana on July 6.
The three ODIs will be played on July 10, 13 and 16 in Guyana.
