West Indies leads by 106 runs with 5 First Innings Wickets at hand
Brilliant unbeaten 126 by Kayle Meyers and three partnerships have taken West Indies to driving seat at stumps of day two of the Padma Bridge Test match at St Vincent Daren Sammy stadium.
With 106 runs lead and 5 wickets at hand West Indies looks in command for yet another series white washed. Bangladesh on a wicket of uneven bounce bowled well at time but could not press on longer.
Most WI batters batted with passion and determination producing to Bangladesh lessons they must learn how to bat on difficult wicket in test matches.
Bangladesh will be batted out of the match if they cannot remove the unbeaten Meyers and Joshua de Silva early on day three restricting the lead below 150.
Another series brown wash is looming for Bangladesh unfortunately.
It was high quality batting by almost all WI batters on a wicket not so easy to bat.
Not that Bangladesh bowled too poorly. Khaled and Meraj at times asked questions. The bounce of the wicket demanded batting with caution.
That was what Capatin Brathwaitte and Campbell did in the opening partnership of 100. Shoriful made the first break through having Campbell nicking behind for 45.
Miraj broke the patience of stubborn Bathwaitte for 51 disturbing his furniture. Suddenly WI had mini collapse as 3 wickets feel within the space of 1 run.
Khaled bowled Reifer and Bonner in the same over. At 132/4 Bangladesh got back into contest. Unfortunately, Bangladesh failed to push on. For reasons unknown Shakib kept himself away from bowling. Meyers counter attacked and Blackwood provided him solid company.
116 runs 5th wicket partnership between Meyers and Blackwood restored the balance for WI.
Bangladesh bowlers leaked too many boundaries. Or in other word Meyers made them look pretty ordinary on a difficult wicket playing quality strokes.
Finally, after tea Mehedy broke the partnership trapping Blackwood LBW for 40.
But again there was no stopping of Meyers. He raced to his second century both against Bangladesh.
He found able partner in wicket Keeper batsman Joshua de Silva.
The unbroken 6th wicket partnership adding 92- led the cruise of WI over and across Bangladesh to 106 runs potentially matches winning lead.
Meyers stuck 15 fours and 2 sixes in his 180 ball 126. Joshua was patient on 26 in 106 balls. Bangladesh batsmen yesterday showed no patience.
Hope they learned a lesson or two from the batsman ship of WI on this wicket.
With 106 runs lead and 5 wickets at hand WI is sitting pretty for winning the test and achieving another brown wash.
The fate of Bangladesh is almost carved. Shakib ultimately bowled 18 overs but not necessarily when he should have introduced himself.
Wicket had lo of purchase for both pacers and spinners. Bangladesh attack simply could not exploit.
