Top less batting yet again in the second innings leads Bangladesh staring at a series whitewash.
Bangladesh at stumps of rain interfered day three were 132/6 still 42 runs in arrears for making West Indies bat again. The feature of day three was quality West Indian pacer Kemar Roach reaching his 250 wickets mark. Roach with 252 test wickets is among the exclusive club of West Indies bowlers. Khaled Ahmed of Bangladesh also took his first 5 wickets haul taking 5/106. Kayle Mayers took his second test century ( both against Bangladesh) to 146.
West Indies started day three at 340/5 with majestic Meyers unbeaten on 126. Khaled and Miraj in particular and entire Bangladesh bowling unit bowled well taking the remaining 5 wickets for the addition of 68 runs. Mayers took his second test century to 146 before Khaled removed him caught well by Shoriful. Khaled got his best test figure of 5/106. In marathon bowling efforts of 39 overs Mehedy Miraj took 3/91. Shoriful also chipped in with 2/76.

Trailing by huge 174 in the first innings circumstances required care and discretion from top order batsmen specially the senior batsman Tamim Iqbal. He chased one ball of Khemar Roach presenting him his 250th test wicket. It was an inexcusable and irresponsible approach of the highest test run getter. Tamim should have paid more price for his wicket. Joy was looking good playing few delightful strokes. But smart Roach setting him up well had him nick in the slip after conceding two consecutive boundaries. Anamul was a bit unlucky falling second time to umpires call. Litton again let his good start slip way. At 57/4 the possibility of yet another humiliating innings defeat was looming.
Rain interrupted. Shanto batting with patience and commitment was showing promise, Shakib was looking good. 47 good runs were accumulated in the 5th wicket partnership. Unfortunately, Shanto threw away his good start playing a very ordinary shot. Shakib was expected to apply and take the responsibility of his team on his shoulders. But unfortunately, he fished one from Joseph outside the off stick. Shakib did not do justice to his reputation. The manner in which Tamim and Shakib threw away their wickets in the innings was unfortunate. At 118/6 it was left to two youngsters Nurul Hasan Sohan and Mehedy Hasan Miraj to salvage some pride. The main challenge on day four would be whether Bangladesh can avoid another humiliating innings defeat. Whitewash in the series cannot be avoided unless rain wipes out the remaining two days play.
In conclusion, cannot help saying senior professionals Tamim and Shakib left no example for their junior mates about application in batting on a tricky surface.
