Bangladesh whitewashed in two matches Padma Bridge test series against West Indies also recorded the ignominious 100th test loss. In 7 and 10 wickets defeat at Antigua and St Vincent they could compete at all well. Now they have moved to Dominica another beautiful island of the Atlantic for T20 series starting on July 2.
The series will be followed up by ODI series. T20 series are very important for both teams. West Indies has to appear in the qualifying round for ICC T20 Championship 2022 scheduled to be held in Australia. Bangladesh will directly play; There is a possibility that the teams will play against each other in Brisbane. West Indies has announced experimental squads for the two white-ball formats resting few regulars. They have a plan in place for developing strong units for both the formats as some of their world-class superstars including Chris Gayle, Keiron Pollard have called it a day.
Bangladesh have a strong unit for ODI and prefers this format. T20 is also not their strong option. However, this time there is a possibility for Bangladesh performing better in T20 International as well. However, ODI series is not a part of ICC ODI championship.
BCB has granted leave of absence to star all rounder Shakib Al Hasan. Mushfiqur Rahim is in Saudi Arabia performing Hajj. Tamim Iqbal will lead the ODI team, Mahmudullah will spearhead T20 team. Shakib and Mahmudullah playing together after a while will definitely make Bangladesh more competitive. Taskin, Mustafiz and Shoriful will form a formidable bowling unit. Return of Bijoy in the top order is expected to add value also.
The T20I Series starts with back-to-back matches on July 2 and July 3 at the Windsor Park in Dominica. This will see a return to international cricket at the fully refurbished venue, where international cricket is being hosted for the first time since the hurricane damage of 2017. The third and final match will be held on Tuesday, July 7 at the Guyana National Stadium. The ODI series will be played at the Guyana National Stadium on July 10, July 13 and July 16.

Bangladesh Squads:
One Day International: Tamim Iqbal (Captain ), Litton K Das , Anamul Haq Bijoy, Nazmul Hossen Shanto, Mahmudullah Riad, Nasum Ahmed, Taskin Ahmed, Mehidy Hasan Miraj, Nurul Hasan (Wicket Keeper) ,Afif Hossain, Ebadat Hossain, Mosaddek Hossain, Shoriful Islam and Taijul Islam.
T20 International: Mahmudullah Riad (Captain) ,Litton K Das, Anamul Haq, Shakib Al Hasan, Munim Shahriar, Nasum Ahmed, Mehedi Hasan, Nurul Hasan (Wicket Keeper), Afif Hossain. Mosaddek Hossain, Sohidul Islam, Shoriful Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Mostafizur Rahman
Tamim for reasons best known to him is keeping himself away from T20 International. He should rather announce his retirement from the format rather than keeping all guessing. Bangladesh preparation for T20 World Cup starts with this series. In his absence Bijoy and Litton may open the batting with Shakib slotted at three. It will be an opportunity for Afiff for proving his talent yet again this time may be batting at 5 or 6 just after Mahmudullah Riad. Munim is an option in the top order as well. Mosaddek and Nurul Hasan should bat well in lower middle order. The loss of Yasir Rabbi and Saifuddin gave sad blow to Bangladesh. Still Bangladesh has opportunity to register win or even win the series with formidable bowling attack.
Bangladesh is favourite against West Indies in ODI anywhere in the world. Of course, Shakib opting out, Mushfique unavailable for series, Mohammad Saifuddin missing through injury will tilt the balance a bit. Hope Bijoy will establish his position in team, Mosaddeq will redeem. Will be surprised if Bangladesh does not win ODI Series. Off course these days no one is sure about performance of Bangladesh in any format.
