All-rounder Afif Hossain Dhrubo has been appointed vice-captain of the Tigers in the Asia Cup.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) made the announcement in a press release on Saturday night.
Since his debut in February 2018, the 22-year-old has participated in 47 T20 Internationals.
Afif Hossain, a crucial member of the middle order who can also bowl as an occasional off-spinner when necessary, is regarded as one of Bangladesh’s most long-term promising players.
He may play a new role for Bangladesh starting on August 30 against Afghanistan in Sharjah as the number four hitter in the batting order, in addition to aiding Shakib Al Hasan.
The new vice-captain has played 42 innings in T20Is so far, scoring 698 runs with an average of 19, and a strike rate of 118. In addition, he has eight wickets in 16 innings.
Bangladesh will face Afghanistan in their tournament opener on Aug 30 (Tuesday).
Meanwhile, in the Asia Cup opener, fast bowler Fazalhaq Farooqi contributed bowling stats of 3-11 to Afghanistan’s eight-wicket victory against Sri Lanka.
