Asian champions Sri Lanka defeated the Netherlands by 16 runs to ensure the Super 12 stage of the Twenty20 World Cup on Thursday (Oct 20).
Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka won the toss and chose to bat against the Netherlands in their final first-round match of the T20 World Cup in Geelong.
The world's eighth-ranked team plundered 162-6, blasting 102 of them off the final 10 overs to set up a big target which the Dutch were unable to reach as they finished on 146-9.
Opener Kusal Mendis slammed a 44-ball 79, though Netherlands' Max O'Dowd took not out 71 off 53 balls.
The Asia Cup champions have won one and lost one and need to topple the unbeaten Group A leaders to make it to the Super 12.
