Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) Commissioner Prof Dr Shaikh Shamsuddin Ahmed said the capital market has much potential to contribute to the economy.
He said: “There is huge scope for performance of the capital market. One of the fundamentals of the stock market is Price Earning (PE) Ratio. The ratio in Bangladesh is lower than that of neighbouring countries—meaning huge scope for investment.”
While addressing a conference on investment education at a convention centre at Dattarhat in Maijdi of Noakhali on Saturday, Prof Dr Shaikh Shamsuddin invited people to come forward to invest in the capital market.
He also said: “Having money is not enough to invest in share market. People should know how to invest. We have arranged the programme for you (participants) to impart knowledge of capital market. Training on share investment started in 2017. Besides, the website www.finlitbd.com is pregnant with necessary information. It is bilingual having Bengali and English contents.”
Regarding various steps of BSEC, he said people having BO accounts cannot only invest in share market but also in treasury bonds.
Prof Dr Shaikh Shamsuddin said the commission has come up with various types of product in the capital market which is capable of ensuring security of people's investments.
