With the theme 'Let's use local textile products, build golden Bangla", the National Textiles Day-2022" will be observed in the country on Sunday (Dec 4).
The Ministry of Textiles and Jute has taken an elaborate programme to mark the day, according to an official release today (December 2).
President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages on the eve of the day.
In his message, President Hamid said, "The textiles sector is playing an important role for rural poverty alleviation, women empowerment, employment generation and foreign currency earnings."
After the Independence, he said, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had taken and implemented different policies and programmes for the textiles and jute sector in an attempt to make the sector a 'boom'.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in her message, said Bangladesh has glorious reputation in textile industry and after independence, Bangabandhu, the greatest Bengali of all time, had taken steps for the development handloom industry in the country.
Following the footprint of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mubijur Rahman, the present Awami League government made pledge in its election manifesto for building the textile sector as a strong and competitive one, she added.
