Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar has said that decision was taken to lift the ban on the sale of private mobile phone operator Grameenphone's SIM cards.
“They have fulfilled the conditions given during the ban on the sale of Grameenphone SIM cards,” he said on Sunday (Jan 1).
From now on, they can sell SIM cards, he added.
BTRC vice-chairman Subrata Roy Maitra said that Grameenphone was banned from selling SIM cards until it improves its quality of service.
BTRC said that the decision regarding the lifting of the ban on the sale of SIM cards will be informed to Grameenphone soon.
Earlier on November 22, 2022, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) said that the telecom operator cannot sell old SIM cards either.
On June 29, 2022, BTRC imposed an indefinite suspension on new Grameenphone SIM card sale due to the operator’s ‘failure to provide quality service’.
