Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) chairman Dr. Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam said gold traders can participate in the capital market if the company is profitable.
The BSEC chairman was addressing a seminar organized by Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) on Saturday (February 11).
In order to get listed on the Dhaka Stock Exchange, a company needs at least Tk 30 crore initial capital while it is Tk 5 crore for SMEs. It is not possible for many companies to get listed with this Tk 5 crore. That's a big hurdle. Among the gold traders, there are many who are unable to come to the capital market due to this obstacle.
When asked about the situation, the BSEC Chairman said, in the e-commerce sector, it is seen that globally they take 7-10 years to get profitable. So, we have already placed 2-3 e-commerce companies in SME and Mainboard. And we give them waiver that is required.
"If those who are doing very good business in your (gold) sector, and want to come to SME or mainboard, we will see if there is security of people's investment then we will give necessary support there, he added.
He also said that if there is any small discount needed here, we can give it easily.
