100 injured, 10 RMG units shut

SAVAR: Workers of a readymade garment blocked Dhaka-Aricha highway and vandalized vehicles and looted a local fire service unit on Sunday morning.

Sources said that after spreading a rumor of torturing a fellow worker, hundreds of workers of Al Muslims group took position on Dhaka-Aricha highway at around 8:00am and vandalized 20 to 25 vehicles and torched a motorbike.

Meanwhile, agitated workers attacked and looted a fire service station.

Later, police rushed to the spot and fired tear shell and rubber bullets to bring the situation under control that triggered a fierce clash, leaving more than 100 people, including journalists, passersby, workers and police, injured.

Following the incident, authorities declared 10 readymade garment factories shut.
