DHAKA: Due to legal complications, about BDT 24,000 crores revenue of Customs is yet to be realized, said sources in National Board of Revenue (NBR).

NBR Chairman Golam Hossain claimed that a group of beneficiary officers and lawyers of Customs are responsible for lack of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).

Around 10,000 revenue evasion cases are pending for last long 30-year in 11 Customs houses including Chittagong, Mongla, Pangaon, Kamlapur ICD and Benapole, he added.

Some renowned companies like City Group, Partex Group and others are top listed in this category. However NBR introduced ADR facility in 2012, to avoid such chaos regarding Customs tax. But only 35 cases were settled down after one year’s effort.

Golam Hossain also suggested imposing strict rules to get the proper rumination in this field. Moreover both officials as well as the companies should be more sincere in this regard, he added.
