Due to heavy rain for the past three days, the prices of chicken, eggs, vegetables and onions have gone up in the market. However, the prices of the other essentials are stable.
The situation has been observed after visiting a number of retail markets in the capital on Friday (May 13).
Several market vendors said that the farmers have increased the price of chicken feed which is why chicken prices have gone up, and an increase in demand for the vegetables also hiked the price of vegetables.
Another reason for the rise in prices is the influence of the syndicate.
Broiler chickens are being sold at Tk 170-180 per kg. The price of Sonali chicken has gone up to Tk 300-310 per kg. Layer chicken is being sold at Tk 270-280 per kg.
Dozens of red eggs are being sold at Tk 115-120. Dozens of duck eggs are being sold at Tk 160. Dozens of local chicken eggs are being sold at Tk 190.
Prices of the vegetables in the market have gone up, Cucumbers are being sold at Tk 60 per kg, eggplant at Tk 60, tomatoes at Tk 60, pumpkins at Tk 90, carrots at Tk 100, sweet pumpkins at Tk 40, chichinga at Tk 60, patal at Tk 60, potato at Tk 50, radish at Tk 40, kachu lati at Tk 60, papaya Tk 40, Barbati Tk 60, dhundal Tk 70, peas Tk 120, rice pumpkin Tk 50 per piece, gourd pumpkin is being sold at Tk 60 per size..
The price of onion has hiked by Tk 5. Local onions are being sold at Tk 40-45 per kg.
Sugar is being sold at Tk 60-75 per kg. Besides, packets of sugar are being sold at Tk 85-90 per kg.
