Bangladesh Jeweller's Association (BAJUS) has sought the intervention of Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal to resolve the complexities related to value-added tax (VAT) in the promising jewellery industry.
Former BAJUS President Dilip Kumar Roy made the plea while addressing a view-exchange meeting with the gold traders of Dinajpur at the Dinajpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry auditorium as the chief guest on Wednesday.
He urged the businesses to raise voice against harassment of gold traders by dishonest tax officials.
“BAJUS is always with you (gold traders). Bangladesh will no longer need to import gold after a few days as factories are being set up here to produce international standard ornaments. Instead, we’ll export jewellery after meeting our domestic demand,” Roy said.
Under the leadership of BAJUS President Sayem Sobhan Anvir, also Bashundhara Group Managing Director, the gold industry is on the right track to regain its lost glory, he said.
BAJUS Adviser Ruhul Amin Rasel, executive member Reponul Hasan and District Monitoring Committee member Enamul Haque Sohel also spoke at the meeting with Dinajpur district unit President Mofazzal Hossain in the chair.
District chapter Vice-Presidents Anil Kumar Roy and Shariful Alam, General Secretary Mokhlesur Rahman and Assistant General Secretary Shah Newaz were also present.
