Abu Shahed Imon, a lecturer of the Films and Television Department of Jagannath University (JnU) has been suspended on charges of sexual harassment of a student.
Besides, Professor Dr Junayed Ahmed Halim, chairman of the department concerned, has been relieved of his post for non-cooperation with the student.
The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the syndicate on Thursday (March 21) afternoon.
JnU vice-chancellor Professor Dr Sadeka Halim disclosed the matter after syndicate meeting.
She said the syndicate took the decision as the sexual harassment and mental torture of the student were proved in a report submitted by Sexual Harassment Resistance Cell. The decision has been taken as the authenticity of the allegations by the student against the teacher was preliminary found in the report.
"After I have joined here as the vice-chancellor, I also formed an investigation board. We hope that we will receive their report very soon," she said.
The VC said she had talked with the syndicate members about the expulsion of student Amman Siddiqui and suspension of assistant proctor Deen Islam in connection with law department's student Abantika's death. The honourable syndicate members were also apprised of the inquiry committee formed to probe Abantika's death.
However, accused teacher Abu Shahed Imon on Wednesday (March 20) termed student Kazi Farzana Mim's allegation against him as 'imaginative.'
He made the remark after being questioned at the Detective Branch of police at Minto Road in the capital on that day.
