DHAKA: The teachers’ association of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) has ignored its newly appointed vice-chancellor Professor Dr Khalida Iqram.

The teachers of the association gathered in a general meeting on Saturday afternoon in this regard.

Sources said the leaders of the association claimed that this is a trick of the education minister Nurul Islam Nahid.

President of the association Dr Joynal Abedin claimed that the education minister promised earlier that he would appoint VC out of best three teachers.

However, Dr Khalida Iqram was appointed by superseding 14 senior teachers of the university, he added.

Dr Joynal Abedin also said that we will request the President and also the Chancellor of the university M Abdul Hamid for a fair VC appointment.

Otherwise, we will go for further demonstration program in October after the admission examinations of BUET, he added.

Earlier on Thursday afternoon, Dr Khalida Iqram was appointed as the first female VC for the institution for next four years.

BUET’s outgoing VC Professor Dr Nazrul Islam formally handed over charges to the newly appointed VC on Saturday morning.
