A student of Jagannath University, Jubaid Hossain, was stabbed to death in Old Dhaka on Sunday evening, police said.
The incident occurred around 6 pm while Jubaid was on his way to give private tuition.
His body was later discovered inside the residence of one of his students on Pani Pump Lane in Armanitola, confirmed Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Bangshal Police Station.
“He was killed in a knife attack. The flat where his body was recovered is the same place where he used to teach,” the OC said. “The motive behind the murder is still unknown. We are investigating the incident thoroughly.”
Jubaid was a student of the Department of Statistics (2019–20 batch) at Jagannath University.
Originally from Cumilla, he served as the president of the Cumilla District Student Welfare Association and was a member of the convening committee of the JnU unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD).
Professor Muhammad Tajammul Haque, the university proctor, expressed deep sorrow over the incident. “We have learned about his death, but the cause is still unclear. This is a deeply tragic incident. We have asked the police to review CCTV footage, and I am heading to the scene,” he said.
The police have launched an investigation to determine the motive behind the killing and to identify those responsible. Authorities have urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.
