Suvra Mukharjee Girls’ Hostel being built in Narail

NARAIL: The construction of an international standard girls’ hostel, after the name of India president Pranab Mukharjee’s wife and also First Lady Suvra Mukharjee in Government Victoria College in Narai, is underway.

Indian assistant high commissioner (Rajshahi region) Sandip Mitra supervised the construction work Sunday noon.

He was accompanied with Narail District Council administrator Advocate Subas Chandra Bose, additional deputy commissioner Ananda Kumar Biswas, Government Victoria College principal Sheikh Anwar Hossain and vice-principal Barun Kumar Biswas, among others.

The Indian envoy also visited the college and exchanged his views with its teachers.

However, the 5-storied Suvra Mukharjee Girls’ Hostel is being built with the financial support of the Indian government. The cost of the building is estimated nearly Tk 4-crore.

About 60 percent of the construction work has been done.

Earlier on March 5, 2013, the Indian president Pranab Mukharjee and the First Lady Suvra Mukharjee visited Bhadrabila village of Narail sadar upazila as the president’s in-laws’ house.

The declaration of a new hostel for girls at Government Victoria College came during their visit.
