NILPHAMARI: Bangladesh Army University of Science and Technology (BAUST) has been inaugurated in Syedpur Cantonment of the district on Sunday aimed at expanding ICT education in rural areas for building ‘Digital Bangladesh’.

Asaduzzman Noor, Minister of Cultural Affairs Ministry, inaugurated the university at noon.

During the opening ceremony, the AL lawmaker opined that students should not have to study only for attaining GPA-5. They also need to pay attention on sports and cultural activities. 

He also said, “The BAUST will provide help enhancing the standard of education in northern region of the country.”

It would play vital role in building ‘Digital Bangladesh’ by creating an opportunity for the students to make themselves as standard IT professionals, he told his audience.

With University vice-chancellor Brigadier General (retd) Abul Hossain in the chair, the function was addressed, among others, by 66th Infantry Division GOC and Area Commander of Rangpur Major General M Salah Uddin Miaji, project director and commandant of EME center and school Brigadier General Kabiruzzman, Opposition whip Shawkat Chowdhury, Aftab Hossain MP, Deputy Commissioner M Jakir Hossian.
