Nat’l Primary Education Week begins

DHAKA: The National Primary Education Week with the slogan of ‘Quality Education, Nation’s Promise’ kicked off on Thursday February 4).

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the week in city’s Osmani Memorial Auditorium at 10:00am.

In her speech as chief guest, the premier said, ‘Standing on rubble of worn-torn country, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was building the country. Despite those unfriendly situation, he put importance on education. Girls' education was declared unpaid’.

‘When the government was formed, Father of the Nation gifted constitution to the country within nine months of independence. In the constitution, primary education was declared compulsory’, she added.

Moreover, chairman of parliamentary standing committee for primary and mass education ministry Motaher Hossain were present as special guest at the ceremony.

Ministry secretary M Humayun Khalid delivered welcome speech at the event, with primary and mass education minister Mostafizur Rahman in the chair.

The ministry will celebrate the week, which will feature activities related to the promotion of primary education, till February 10.
