British Council to help students improve English

DHAKA: The British Council will assist secondary school and madrasa students in improving their English speaking and listening skills.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between education ministry and the British Council in this regard.

Ministry additional secretary Chowdhury Mufad Ahmed and British Council director Barbara Wickham signed the MoU on Sunday (February 7).

Education minister Nurul Islam Nahid was present at the signing ceremony.

According to the MoU, the British Council will assist Bangladesh secondary and madrasa students for two years to improve their English speaking and listening skill.

It will survey to find out the obstacles in learning English and later take steps to solve them.

The minister said, "Reading and writing are not enough for one’s English proficiency. Speaking and listening are also crucially important".
