Jatiya Rabindra Sangeet Utsab, one of the largest events in the country on works of Bengali polymath Rabindranath Tagore, will begin tomorrow (May 9).
Bangladesh Rabindra Sangeet Shilpi Songstha (BRSS) has organised the 35th edition of the festival, marking birth anniversary of Nobel laureate Tagore.
Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury will inaugurate the three-day carnival as chief guest at Matribhasha Institute in the capital while distinguished cultural figure Ramendu Majumdar will present as special guest on the occasion.
“The three-day festival will feature songs, recitations and dance performances based on Tagore’s work on occasion of the 163rd Rabindra Jayanti. The festival also observes the birth centenary of renowned Rabindra exponent and BRSS founding President Kalim Sharafi,” BRSS Publicity Secretary Khokan Chandra Das told Daily Sun over phone.
The 35th edition of festival is dedicated to renowned singer Sadi Mohammad who passed away recently, according to the organiser.
BRSS will also felicitate of renowned Rabindra exponent Prof Dr Rezwana Choudhury Bannya for achieving prestigious Indian fourth largest civilian award Padma Shri.
Around three hundred artists from different cultural platforms of Dhaka, Chattogram, Sherpur, Faridpur, Jashore and Sylhet will perform in different sessions. Singers of Sangeet Bhaban, Shurer Dhara, BAFA, Boitalik, Bishwabina, Robiraag, Shurotirtho are scheduled to perform group songs while artists of Nrittanchal will perform Dance on Tagore music.
The Festival is directed and planned by BRSS President Tapan Mahmud, a valiant freedom fighter and singer of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra. BRSS Executive President Ameenah Ahmed and General Secretary Pijush Barua have extended their support to organising team.
BRSS Vice-Presidents Kh. Khairuzzaman Qayyum, Bula Mahmud and Kajol Mukherjee, Senior Joint Secretaries Tanjina Toma, Aniket Acharya and Sagarika Jamali, Joint Secretaries Doly Chowdhury and Bishnu Mondal, Finance Secretary Kanak Khan, Office Secretary Seema Sarker, Organising Secretary Abdur Rashid and Syeda Rifat Jamal Mitu, Publicity Secretaries Khokan Chandra Das, Joyanta Acharjee, Executive Members Azirur Rahman Tuhin, Sharmila Chakraborty, Shimu Dey, Ahmed Shakil Hasmi, Ahmed Maya Akhtary, Md Sazzad Hossain, Jafar Ahmed, Rabita Sabah, Chhanda Roy, Farmin Ima Islam and Nirjher Chowdhury made their effort together to happen the carnival. General members are working on different capacity for making the festival successful.
