DHAKA: Election Commission (EC) has cleared candidacy of Miles band frontman Shafin Ahmed to vie for the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayoral by-elections.

His nomination form was earlier cancelled during the scrutinizing by the Returning Officer (RO).

Afterwards, he filed an appeal to Dhaka Divisional Commissioner KM Ali Azam to get the candidacy back. 

Contacted, RO Abul Kashem confirmed Banglanews on Wednesday (Feb 6) his acknowledgement about approval of Shafin’s plea.

The noted musician was nominated by Jatiya Party (Ershad) to contest the DNCC by-polls which will be held on Feb 28.

The DNCC mayor post fell vacant following the death of Annisul Huq on Nov 30, 2017.
