DHAKA: The High Court imposed a ban on making any film or drama based on the sufferings of Jahalom who was jailed for three years without any guilt.

The ban will remain active until disposal of a related rule issued by the HC.

The HC bench of Justice Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice KM Hafizul Alam issued the order Wednesday (March 20).

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan moved for the plea while Deputy Attorney General Jahid Sarwar Kajal moved for the state, at the courtroom.

“A self-motivated HC rule on Jahalom is under trial. The HC has imposed a ban on making any film or drama based on the life of Jahalom, until disposal of the rule,” Khurshid Alam Khan told media after the hearing.

On March 13, two national dailies published reports on a film to be made on Jahalom’s life.

The reports said that national award winning actor-director Riazul Rizu will play the character of Jahalom in a film titled after Jahalom, to be made by director Maria Tushar.

“As many as 14 directors will appear in the film. Their names will be disclosed soon,” stated one of the reports.

Jahalom, who had worked at a jute mill in Narsingdi, was sued in 26 cases and grilled for three years, after he was wrongly recognized as one Abu Salek, an accused in a case over embezzling money from Sonali Bank.

However, criticism poured on ACC’s responsibility after Jahalom was released from Kashimpur Central Prison-2 in Gazipur on Feb 4.
