BTV begins airing programmes in India

DHAKA: Bangladesh Television (BTV) has started transmitting its programmes in India on Monday (September 2).

Those have been airing through India’s state-run Doordarshan’s DTH platform-DD Free Dish.

Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud inaugurated the broadcasting formally from BTV auditorium at Rampura in the city at 3:00pm.

State Minister Md. Murad Hasan and India's High Commissioner to Bangladesh Riva Ganguly Das were the special guests at the event, with Information Secretary Abdul Malek in the chair.

As chief guest, the minister said, “The broadcast of BTV programmes has started at 9 am in India. Now we are announcing officially. During the visit of India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Bangladesh on 2015, BTV broadcasting was announced in a joint declaration. Accordingly, all preparations were completed by July this year. But we are looking forward to the end of August”.

“Formal transmission of BTV (programmes) has started in India through its national television “Doordarshan” in line with the agreement signed between the two countries during the June 6-7 visit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in India”.

As Special guest, Indian High Commissioner to Dhaka Riva Ganguly Das said, “Such a move would strengthen the cultural ties between the two countries. Today's move will play an important role in exchanging information between the two nations. This will be the basis for bonding with people. BTV will reach three crores people in India, which will bring people of both countries closer”.
