Today (July 19) is the 9th death anniversary of noted litterateur, playwright, director and filmmaker Humayun Ahmed. 

On the occasion, family of the prominent writer and his fans offered special prayers at the writer's graveyard at Nuhash Palli in the morning.

The writer's widow and actress-media personality Meher Afroz Shaon, alongside their two sons Ninit and Nishad has also placed floral wreaths at his grave.

Besides, different socio-cultural organizations are marking the day through a limited arrangement, due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation.

They are paying tribute to the eminent writer through different virtual programmes, on various media platforms.

Fans and admirers are also posting emotional tributes to the legend on their social media accounts.

Private television channels are airing various programmes including drama, talk show, cinemas in memory of Humayun Ahmed.

Humayun Ahmed, one of the most popular writers in Bangali literature, died at Bellevue Hospital in New York City from cancer on July 19, 2012.

Humayun won Lekhak Shibir Prize in 1973, Bangla Academy Award in 1981, Shishu Academy Award, Jainul Abedin Gold Medal, Michael Madhusudan Medal in 1987, Bacsas Prize in 1988, Humayun Qadir Memorial Prize in 1990, National Film Awards (Bangladesh) (Best Story 1993, Best Film 1994, Best Dialogue 1994) (Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Story Writer, 2012, Ekushey Padak in 1994, Sheltech Award in 2007.
