37 undergo free surgery at Bashundhara Eye Hospital

Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute (BEHRI) provided 37 poor patients with surgery free of cost in Dhaka’s Bashundhara Residential Area on Thursday (October 19).

BEHRI, an ophthalmic initiative of the country’s leading business conglomerate Bashundhara Group, Vision Care Foundation, and AKM Abu Taher Foundation jointly conducted the operations throughout the day, read a press release.

Dr Mazumder Golam Rabbi, Dr Akter Ferdousi Jahan, and Dr Tasruba Shahnaz performed the surgeries under the supervision of BEHRI Director and Vision Care Foundation chairman Prof Dr Md Saleh Ahmed. 

Of the patients, 27 were men and 10 women. Thirty-six of them underwent cataract surgery.

BEHRI Manager (HR and Administration) Mohammad Ahsan Habib said, “This initiative has been taken to provide poor people with ophthalmic treatment. We have been conducting the campaign across the country free of cost since before.” 

As many as 2,834 patients have so far undergone surgeries through this campaign, he added.

On September 22, BEHRI, Vision Care, and AKM Abu Taher Foundation organised an eye camp at Galimpur union in Barura upazila of Cumilla and provided treatment to 2,000 patients, while 380 patients were selected for operations. The 37 patients belong to the group.
