Bangladesh reports 4 dengue deaths; 814 hospitalised in 24 hours

Bangladesh recorded four more dengue deaths in the past 24 hours, while 814 patients were admitted to hospitals nationwide, according to a Health Directorate bulletin issued on Tuesday (21 October).

The Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room said new admissions included: 170 in Dhaka North City Corporation, 107 in Dhaka South, and 124 elsewhere in Dhaka division. Barishal reported 126 admissions outside the city corporation area, Chattogram 114, Mymensingh 46, Rangpur 41, Khulna 41, Rajshahi 40 and Sylhet five.

Over the same period, 819 patients were discharged. Since the start of the year to 21 October, a total of 61,605 dengue cases have been recorded, 61.4% of them male and 38.6% female.

Cumulative deaths this year rose to 253, the bulletin said.

By comparison, in 2024 authorities counted 1,214 dengue cases and 575 deaths. In 2023, Bangladesh reported 321,179 hospitalisations and 1,705 deaths.
