In what could further strengthen India’s fight against the Coronavirus pandemic, a report suggests hesitancy against Covid-19 vaccine in the country is currently at the lowest level. Only 7% of adults in the country are currently hesitant to get inoculated against Covid-19. Around 46% of unvaccinated citizens plan to take their first dose soon, according to a survey.

Meanwhile, the vaccination drive in the country has been progressing at a robust pace. India has so far administered 92.63 crore doses of the Covid-19 vaccine. As many as 6.93 crore doses are still available with the states/UTs. As the vaccination drive picks up the pace, the total number of administered doses is set to cross the 100-crore milestone in the next few days.

After staying below 20,000 for few days, daily Covid-19 cases in India witnessed a huge surge on Thursday. As many as 22,431 people tested positive for Coronavirus infection in the last 24 hours, taking India’s overall Covid-19 tally to 3,38,94,312, while the active cases declined to 2,44,198, the lowest in 204 days, according to data from the Union Health Ministry on Thursday. With 318 fresh fatalities, Covid-19 death toll climbed to 4,49,856, the health ministry said. The daily rise in new coronavirus infections has been below 30,000 for 13 straight days.

India has been reporting below 30,000 new Coronavirus infections for the past 13 days in a row. However, any laxity in maintaining appropriate Covid-19 behaviour during the ongoing festive season will reduce the gain India has achieved so far in its fight against the Coronavirus pandemic, warned experts. The government has urged people not to lower the guard and wear masks, follow Covid-19 restrictions, and avoid crowding during the festive celebrations as it might further trigger a spike in Coronavirus infections. Several states/UTs have already issued fresh Covid-19 guidelines and re-imposed restrictions ahead of the festivals.
