India today logged 11,850 fresh Covid cases, which is 5 per cent lower than yesterday's figure. 

The country also reported 555 Covid deaths over the last 24 hours.

The daily rise in new coronavirus infections has been below 20,000 for 36 straight days and less than 50,000 daily new cases have been reported for 139 consecutive days now.

Meanwhile, Covaxin, the coronavirus vaccine developed by the government's medical research agency and Bharat Biotech, was found to have a 77.8 per cent efficacy rate against symptomatic COVID-19 in a long-awaited analysis published in The Lancet.
