DHAKA: Miscreants stabbed a local leader of ruling Awami League to death in Motijheel area of the city on Thursday evening.

The deceased was identified as Khairul Molla, 48, organizing secretary of Demra Thana Awami League.

Witnesses said four miscreants intercepted Khairul Molla and stabbed him indiscriminately as soon as he came out of the Bangladesh Samabaya Bank Limited in the area around 6:30pm, leaving him injured critically.

Later, passersby rushed him to the Emergency Department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where he succumbed to his injuries during a surgery.

The miscreants opened fire a few round of bullets creating panic among the people and fled the scene by two motorbikes, said a spot account of the incident.

Residential Surgeon (RS) of the Emergency Department Ashraf Uddin Khan confirmed his death to banglanews.
