DHAKA: Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, blasted cocktails, vandalized and torched vehicles at several spots of the city on Saturday morning ahead of 72-hour hartal called by 18-party alliance.
Sources said that some 20 to 25 Shibir men brought out a brisk procession in Badda general hospital area and vandalized four to five vehicles at around 9:15am.
Later, police fired some blank shots to bring the situation under control.
Badda police station Officer-in-Charge Iqbal Hossain told banglanews, “On information, we rushed to the spot and bought the situation under control.
Police forces are conducting drives to hold the miscreants, he added.
On the other hand, Shibir men set fire to a double-decker bus and a city bus in Kutubkhali area of Jatrabari in the capital.
Witnesses said that some 30 to 35 Shibir men suddenly started vandalizing vehicles with sticks in the area and set on fire at two buses.
Later, fire fighters from Postagola Fire Service brought the fire under control but in the meantime 80 percent of the bus burnt.
Wari Zone Assistant Commissioner of Police Minhazul Islam confirmed the matter to banglanews.
