DINAJPUR: At least 50 passengers were injured in a head on collision between two Intercity trains in Fulbari Railway Station of the district early Tuesday.
Due to the accident, the train communication of Dinajpur with Dhaka and Khulna come to a halt from 3:45am.
Locals and railway sources said Khulna-bound Simanta Express (Broad Gauge) was stationed at Fulbari Station when a Dinajpur-bound Ekota Express (Meter Gauge) entered onto the same rail tracks and collided with the Simanta Express at around 3.45am, leaving at least 50 passengers injured.
Fire broke out in the engine of Simanta Express and four compartments of the trains veered off the track.
The injured were admitted to various local hospitals and clinics.
After more than five hours halt, the rail service of the routes resumed at around 9:00am.
Station Master of Parbatipur Rail Station Sheikh Abdus Sattar and Officer-in-Charge of Dinajpur Railway Thana (GRP) Saju Mia confirmed the matter to banglanews.
Local people also informed that the officials of Fulbari station have fled after the accident.
