GAZIPUR: At least 50 readymade garment workers were injured in a clash with police on Dhaka-Tangail highway on Wednesday morning.
Witnesses said hundreds of agitating workers staged a protest procession at around 9:00am and put barricade on Dhaka-Tangail highway demanding the implementation new salary scale declared by wage commission and protesting the factory shut.
Later, police rushed to the spot and charged baton to bring the situation under control, leaving 50 people injured.
The chase and counter chase between police and and workers was going on while the report was being filed.
Confirming the matter Konabari Police out post In Charge Sub-Inspector Rabiul Islam told banglanews, “Additional law enforcers including Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Border Guard Banglanews (BGB) personnel were deployed in the area.”
