20-RMG factories shut in Savar

SAVAR: The authorities concerned declared 20 garment factories closed as over 1,000 readymade garment (RMG) factories workers locked into sporadic clash with police demanding the salary structure hike in Hemayetpur area of Savar.

Witnesses said garment workers from Babylon Casual Wear Ltd, Aboni Fashion and Standard Group vandalized equipments and machineries in the factory, and they also dragged some factory furnishers set fire in and blockaded the road.

Later, police initiated baton charge and shoot rounds of teargas shells and rubber bullets and thwarted the blockade by the agitating workers.

Savar Circle Assistant Police Super Moshiudaula Reza told banglanews that additional police force, RAB and BGB personnel were deployed to avert any untoward situation.
