The body of a Bangladeshi migrant worker, missing for over two weeks in Saudi Arabia, has been found buried under sand and rocks in a desert area near Al-Qassim.
The deceased, 24-year-old Sabuj Matubbor from Manikpur village in Shibchar upazila of Madaripur, had been missing since October 1.
His body, reportedly in a decomposed state, was recovered by Saudi police on Monday (October 13). He had travelled to the kingdom eight months ago in search of better prospects.
Although the body was unrecognisable, fellow expatriates identified Sabuj by the clothing he was last seen wearing. According to his family, Sabuj was carrying approximately Tk 3 lakh intended for processing his iqama (residency permit), leading relatives to suspect he was killed for money.
Sabuj last contacted his family on September 29, promising to send money the following day. When calls went unanswered and his phone remained switched off, his family grew alarmed. Other Bangladeshi workers later informed them that Sabuj had left home on the morning of October 1 and did not return.
Shibchar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) HM Ibn Mizan stated that the administration will support the family with body repatriation if assistance is formally requested.
